DIY Turmeric Mask

Hey Everyone!

Today I wanted to share one of my favorite DIY mask that has helped me with acne, scars, darkness under the eyes, and helped brighten my skin: the turmeric mask. Funny thing is I never really started to experiment with turmeric until a few years ago and I've known about this spice my whole life. So for those who don't know, let me give you a little run down about this amazing plant.

Turmeric is a bright yellow/orange plant from the ginger family that comes from the East.  It has a strong aromatic smell.  I've heard a few different names for turmeric depending on where you're from, but in India we call it Haldi. Turmeric is popularly known for being the spice that's used in many Indian dishes.  It is very healthy because of its medicinal properties. Not only can turmeric be ingested as food but it works when applied on the skin. Turmeric was also used as a dye for clothes so it will temporarily tint your skin yellow after being used as a mask, it comes off though. There are many different ways of creating a turmeric mask.  This is the way that I like to do it and what has worked for me. :D

There are numerous benefits to using turmeric.  Here are just a few reasons to use this mask. It makes your skin look youthful and radiant, reduces wrinkles by building up the collagen, helps lighten hyper-pigmentation, reduces acne, eczema, rosacea, and darkness under the eyes.

What you will need/Ingredients:
A small bowl to mix in
Lemon (Optional: some people don't feel comfortable applying this to their skin since it's acidic)

First add 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons of turmeric into the bowl
Add 2 teaspoons of milk
Add 1/2 teaspoon of honey
1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice (Optional)

You may have to add just a tad bit more milk or honey without the lemon.
If it ends up being too dry, just add a little more milk or honey.
If its too liquidy, add a small amount of turmeric.
If you end up with extra, you can simply store it away in a container in the refrigerator and keep it for next time.

Applying and washing it off:
-You can use your fingers or the back of a spoon to apply it to your face. It may tint your nails to a yellow color, but it will come off in a day or so if its your natural nails.
-Apply all over face, avoid getting it into your eyes and over your eyelids.
-Let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes (longer if its still wet)
-Rinse off with warm water.
-Your face will be tinted yellow, but I like to wipe my face with a yellow towel. :)
-You can wash twice if it really bothers you.  Sometimes I follow up with a toner.
-Lastly finish off by applying your moisturizer.

Do this once or twice a week and you will surely see the results. Let me know in the comment section if you try this out, I'd love to hear back from you. Don't forget to follow me on my other social networks!

  1. I try to use an exfoliating mask 1-2 times a week but haven't used turmeric in years! Actually, I never kept up with it as a teen but with the new bang with turmeric (smoothies and being added to juices etc.) I can see this basic mask becoming a new bang! Great Post! Puja

    1. It's crazy how something that we've known about from when we were children has become so popular, isn't it? Thanks for reading! :)
