5 Ways I'm Making Changes in My Life


As February begins, it's that time that people reflect back on their new years resolutions (I'm looking at your January). They are either bummed because it slipped through the cracks, or stoked about it that they're still going strong. Personally, I stopped making new year resolutions, I just never took it
seriously. Obviously, I always became that bummed person (cue the sad music: womp, womp, womp). However, I'm really excited about 2016 and the goals that I would like to achieve! I really want to push myself to be able to be my best self. I have to keep myself motivated, inspired, excited, and driven to be able to make the changes that I want. Although this is a bit personal, I figured that it may be helpful to others to share what I've been doing and what's been working for me. Here's how I'm making changes in my life and staying inspired.  :)


Only speak kind words to yourself:
It's really important to be your own best friend and be kinder to yourself. As a perfectionist, I'm really hard on myself. I've decided it's time to be my own cheerleader, this has really started to shift my energy. It's helped me to bounce back quicker when I start to feel down, it's also made me more confident in who I am, as well as the decisions I make. I once heard a quote "Be mindful of your-self talk. It's a conversation with the universe. -David James Lee." It really made me think about what I am attracting into my life and who I want to be. So, more self-love and no more self-sabotage.

Comparison:
Ok, we've all done it! I'm not going to act like I haven't but were trying something new here, right? We are all unique and have a different journey that we're traveling on. Sometimes, comparison can boost your ego a bit, it can be beneficial when it motivates you to push yourself to do better. However, most times it makes us feel terrible about ourselves after we've done it. Social media can make it difficult as well, we start to compare ourselves to the small "snap shots" we see into other people's lives. From the perfect body, the perfect house, relationships, jobs, and so on. We devalue our own gifts, beauty, and talent when we think that someone else has it better. It's important to remember that just because we aren't all snapping our lives and putting it up for the world to see doesn't mean that what we have isn't great. Hey, if you saw all the editing and thought that goes into those photos, instagram posts, and tweets you probably wouldn't be envying any of those people. I've decided to stay focused on myself and my own personal growth. I'm able to express my creativity and appreciate all that I am on a deeper level.

Trust:
Trusting that God's plans are better than mine. Sometimes it's hard to understand why things happen, maybe it's preparing us for something else. There have been some really tough times that I still don't understand, but I've definitely grown and become a stronger person because of those times. Then there are other difficult situations that made sense later in my life, which really shaped the person that I have become. For that, I'm grateful for everything that has been thrown at me - good and bad. Now, whenever I'm going through a difficult time I pray/meditate and give it to God.

Be in the moment:
I easily get caught up in overthinking. I lose so much time creating things in my head that hasn't even happened, can happen, has already past, and so on.  I actually have to discipline myself, kind of scold myself to stop thinking about unnecessary thoughts. If it will not help me to progress toward anything that I'm working on, then I don't waste time on it. Be here, right now in this moment and take action that is actually beneficial. Imagine and create the future, not imaginary drama.

Create healthy habits:
What you do consistently every single day is what develops your life. To be able to reach a goal, you need to create routines that will make those changes. It takes a lot of discipline to stay focused and on track, but don't beat yourself up if you mess up and skip a day. It's easy to get discouraged and give up when you hit a bump or two, just get back on it and keep going. As new habits are developed, those old routines that held you back from having the lifestyle you want are being replaced by the healthy new ones. I admit that some days are going to be harder than others, but remember why you set out to create those healthy habits, stay strong and keep going.

  1. The first item on this list is so important and one I really wish people took more notice of. I'm a firm believer in the power of positive affirmation and only speaking good things. Our life eventually starts to reflect what we say, so why say negative things? Great list of meaningful actions.
