Beauty Hacks I Actually Use

Hey there! Hope you're having a lovely day. As I was getting ready today, I started to realize some of the beauty hacks that I use. Many of these tips/tricks have become normal in my daily routine, I forget that not everyone knows them. So, I thought I would share some of my beauty hacks that I actually use. :)

Less wrinkles and frizz:  Slide slide slippity-slide! Use pillow cases that are silk or satin material. Sounds like you would slide off, right? I promise, you get used to it. These materials are more gentle on your skin and hair. Think about the how our face and hair rub against our pillow while we sleep. These pillow cases make a major difference. Another cheaper alternative is to wrap a scarf made of silk on your hair before bed OR take the scarf and wrap it over your pillow. I chose the latter, it worked better for me.

T-Shirt towel: Use a large cotton t-shirt to dry your hair instead of a terrycloth towel. Towels are too rough on the hair and suck out most of the moisture. As a girl with curly hair, using a shirt has really changed my hair game. It's way more gentle and I have less frizz. Microfiber towels work too!

Heat your eyelash curler: This is a super old trick that I learned when I was a teenager. For those eyelashes that won't hold a curl, simply heat it up in front of a heater or with a blow dryer just for a few seconds. Make sure its warm, NOT HOT! Test it with your finger to check the heat, then curl your lashes.

Soften/heal your feet: When your feet are dry, cracked or just tired, apply a heavy moisturizer or oil on your feet before going to bed. When I was living in India for 3 months, I was running around everywhere with bare feet, whhhhaaaaat?! I know! They were awful when I came back. I created my own balm by mixing coconut oil and lavender oil. I massage it on to my feet before bed, put some socks on and catch some z's. This will not only heal your feet, but make them soft too. Plus, it feels amazing when you massage your feet with oil or moisturizer after a long day.

Morning puffiness (water retention): Wake up less puffy by propping a pillow under the top of your pillow. Elevating your head will help to reduce fluid retention.

Lip plumper: Add a drop of peppermint oil to your lip gloss. Peppermint is my preference but you can also add a drop of cinnamon oil. I've also added the peppermint into my Vaseline, I love the minty kick that it gives it. It's like fresh breath every time you apply it!

Lavender oil in mascara: Lavender oil promotes hair growth. Add a drop of this essential oil into your mascara, but make sure you're not allergic to it first. I added one drop into my mascara bottle and shook it and let it sit for a whole day before trying it, this is strong stuff and you don't want to get it into your eyes. I was nervous and I thought my mascara was going to be ruined but it worked fine, just had a strong smell and it never irritated my eyes. I do have a post about growing your eyelashes, but I stopped applying those oils to try this out.

Last of the product: Ever struggle to get the last of the product out of a tube, you know there's enough in there to use for days but you just can't seem to get it out.  It always happens to me with my apricot scrub bottles (I know I'm not the only one)! Instead of tossing it out, here's what I do. So easy! Simply cut off the very top of the tube so you can easily get to whatever is left. DO NOT throw away the end of the tube that you just cut off, use that as a cap after using the product so it won't dry out. If all the product that's left is toward the cap part of the tube, the only thing you need to do differently is cut out the middle section.

Always check your makeup in natural daylight: Have you ever done your makeup beautifully, then see it in a different mirror/light and realize it's a little too caked on, OR that you didn't cover some imperfections like you thought. My bedroom doesn't have the best lighting so I always double check in different light to be sure that it looks right. Check near a window, I always check my makeup when I get into my car. The lighting is usually great in the car, notice how most selfies are taken there. Good lighting is key!

Tightline: Apply eyeliner to the upper rim of your eyes. This might feel strange at first if you've never tried it before, so be careful not to poke yourself in the eye. Tight-lining gives the appearance of fuller looking lashes, it can also be a quick way of wearing eyeliner (especially when you're in a rush).

Tame frizzy hair: For 2nd or 3rd day hair or whenever you just need to tame frizz, this is what I do. Take a small amount of leave-in conditioner and dilute it with a little bit of cold water. Rub your palms together so that you spread the product all over your palms and fingers. Run the product throughout your hair, it will revive your hair and tame the frizz. You'll get rid of that frizz and your hair will love it too!
